Brand Guidelines

The Values of our Brand Partnerships

The Mindful Baby looks at several factors when determining if products are truly sustainable, making them a good fit for our brand. For one, the ingredients or textiles should be eco-friendly, the workers should always be paid fairly at a living wage, and the brand’s carbon footprint can be minimized using renewable energy. In addition, products can be sourced locally and the product should have proven safety standards and be developmentally appropriate for babies and toddlers.

The first way we evaluate a product is by key ingredients. A simple way to do this is to seek products that are made from natural fibers that avoid harsh, synthetic chemicals. For bath and body care, we like to check the first 10 ingredients to ensure each product is made with only the most natural and organic ingredients that easily biodegrade safely back into the environment. The Mindful Baby will not accept any brands that are tested on animals.

For diapering, we only choose brands whose products are not only without harsh dyes, fragrances and chemicals but who also strive to make their products as close to 100% compostable or biodegradable as possible, such as bamboo.

For textile products, including garments and bedding, we look for natural textiles. Organic cotton, bamboo, tencel, and hemp are great fibers to start with. Synthetic fibers like polyester and spandex have micro-plastics, which means they’ll last for decades before fully decomposing. The Mindful Baby does not accept products that use synthetic fibers, unless the product is crafted with a proprietary blend of marine or otherwise recycled plastic for sustainability purposes.

For furniture, utensils and toys, The Mindful Baby accepts brands who use baby-safe, organic, non-toxic dyes and sustainably harvested wood, silicone, bamboo, aluminum or bio-plastic.

When it comes to sustainability, paying people at a living wage is non-negotiable. Every company on The Mindful Baby should pay people fairly and all manufacturing facilities must be in safe, hygienic working environments.

We also look for brands that manufacture their products using sustainable practices, and invest in programs or charitable causes that offset the resources spent.
